Member Information

Membership

Any person, firm, association, corporation, body politic or subdivision can become a member of McDonough Power Cooperative by a written application agreeing to purchase electric service from the cooperative, and comply with the articles of incorporation, bylaws and rules and regulations adopted, and by paying deposits and service connection fees as required.

Connect Charge

It is the policy of McDonough Power Cooperative to charge a connect fee of $10 for each connect made. If connected during overtime, weekends or holiday, over-time charges will apply.

Deposits

A deposit of one-sixth of an estimated annual energy charge is required for a person seeking service who is a nonowner or a property owner with a history of delinquency. Deposits will be refunded after 12 months of on-time payments or applied to the final energy bill upon discontinuance of service.

Rates

Rates are established by the board of directors of McDonough Power Cooperative with the purpose of providing quality electrical service at the lowest possible cost. We do have separate rate schedules for different types of use. Check with the cooperative office for special rate schedules.

Billing

Bills are mailed on or around the 5th of the month and are due in our office by the 17th of every month. A 5% penalty will be assessed on bills paid after the 17th.

Capital Credits

As one of the cooperative’s member-owners, you not only get excellent service at the lowest possible cost, you also share in any cooperative margins. Your share of these margins is called capital credits. At the end of each year, these net margins are allocated and assigned to each member on the basis of the amount of energy used during the year.

Metering

McDonough Power Cooperative requires a separate meter for each permanent unit served. The following are considered units: a residence, apartment, commercial establishment, school, church, or public building.

Members Read Own Meter

Each month, around the 5th you should receive a combination meter reading/billing card. Your energy bill is due and payable when the card is received. Final day to pay the net amount is the 17th of the month, unless the 17th falls on a weekend or holiday. In that case, it may be paid the following regular work day.

On the day you receive your bill, enter the present meter reading in the space marked "ENTER METER READING HERE." (see picture below) Mail or take this portion on your bill card, along with your payment, to the cooperative office. The meter reading you entered will be used to figure your billing for the following month. This billing method keeps a one-month spread between the time you used the energy and the billing period.

In order for a member’s meter reading to be considered valid, it must be reported to our office no later than the 25th of the month. If a member fails to provide the cooperative with a valid meter reading for three consecutive months, the cooperative will read the meter and assess a meter reading charge. Any month thereafter the cooperative will read the meter when the member fails to submit a valid reading and assess such fee.

Meter reading may be e-mailed to: billing@mcdonoughpower.com
